Malaga has hosted the last meeting of the Spanish Network of Multiple Sclerosis (www.reem.es), a research network of the Carlos III Health Institute, Ministry of Science and Innovation, comprised of 16 groups of basic and clinical research from different centers Research and hospitals in Spain. Its mission is to investigate the causes of Multiple Sclerosis and develop new treatments and diagnostic methods to improve their control.
During the meeting each group presented their research agenda and the technologies available. It also explained the projects developed to date. The most important part of the meeting consisted of discussion groups to establish new collaborative research projects. Specifically it is proposed to launch a study seeking biomarkers to assess response to immunomodulatory treatment, the conduct extensive tracing genes and viruses in patient samples and to develop further studies on the mechanisms by which inflammation damages the brain.
The next meeting will be held in Toledo on November 6, which will analyze the progress.
